Chocolate Wedding Cakes

Chocolate Wedding CakesThe great thing about a chocolate wedding cake (besides the taste, of course) is that it can work for any style of wedding depending on how you design it. Whether your style is glitz and glamor with lots of beading on your dress and Swarovski crystal bracelets, country and homey, or modern and chic, there is a chocolate wedding cake design which will be perfect for you. You can be guaranteed that the groom will be on board with whatever design you choose, as long as the cake is chocolate!

A chocolate wedding cake can be the perfect centerpiece for a grand wedding reception. Let's say you were planning an opulent reception in an ornate ballroom in a luxury hotel. Begin by designing a cake which is very tall; five or more tiers would be good - you want your wedding cake to make a statement. Place it upon a silver cake stand and decorate it with fresh red roses between each tier. Top the cake with a small antique silver vase filled with red roses. Then decorate the sides of each tiers with a hand applied scroll pattern in crystals. The sparkling detail will really pop against the dark chocolate frosting, and is a fabulous complement to the bride's Swarovski crystal bracelets, earrings, and bridal necklace.

Chocolate wedding cakes can also be romantic. Lighten up the appearance of dark brown frosting with pink and light green accents. The effect will be softer if the cake is frosted in a buttercream chocolate icing rather than a smooth fondant. Expertly made pink frosting roses with green leaves would look sweet and charming placed around the edges of the cake tiers. For a final touch, bands of pink satin ribbon can be used along the base of each layer.

About A Waist, My Quest to 23"

This mostly pertains to my most recent post (just below) about the measurements of many celebrities of yesteryear.

My closest measurement/height double is Vivien Leigh, but trust me I'm still quite a few inches off here and there. (She's slightly taller with a 23" waist) I tried to do some research on how women had such small waists (exact exercises) and I could not find much information. However, one lovely reader { Principita de Porcelana } was kind enough to point out that many women back then were used to being corseted as were their mothers and their grandmothers so their waists were "better formed" so to speak.

So (please hold the laughter because I'm a little embarrassed to admit this) I went and bought one of those elastic waist bands. My mother swears by them and she's nearly 49 with a 25" waist. So, it must be working, right?

Is it comfortable? Not really. But it's not terrible. In fact it was all right before I had dinner. I've noticed how straight I've been sitting all day though. So I'm trimming my waist and improving my posture. 2 in 1, hooray!

It's So Fancy: Fancy NY Vintage-Inspired Wedding Dresses

I met the fabulous Stephen Nato of Fancy NY during the MS Wedding Anniversary event. As noted in that post, his dress was the best dress of the entire night. So I am not surprised that I love every single dress in his wedding collection. So if you see something you like, head on over to Unique Vintage. The best part - sizes range from 4 to 20!

DC Bridal Event: A Chic Affair

I had the pleasure to attend the luxury wedding event, "A Chic Affair" at the Longview Gallery. What a lovely event. In attendance were some of the top wedding vendors in the Washington metropolitan area. I mean who knew that there was an amazing wedding venue tucked away in the Newseum where Wolfgang Puck Catering will create your wedding fare? I know now.

One of my favorite vendors was MK Catering. Not only was the food delicious but the presentation was beyond words. Their booth was drenched in orange goodness from the decor right down to the mini cupcakes.

There was plenty of good eats all around. I had something delish at the Main Event Catering booth, and at the Purple Onion booth. But the best goodies were from Treet Bakery - Oh Em Gee - Eco-friendly treats made with love by a woman who put the "G" in green. She is so committed to the eco-friendly cause that all her "treets" are packaged in 100 recycled paper and delivered in an eco-friendly car. That's what I call true commitment. Unfortunately, I didn't get to sample anything from Fluffly Thoughts Cakes but their cakes looked amazing.

There were some amazing floral arrangements by Park Florist, who along with Treet, are totally committed to going green. I also loved the floral arrangements by Pupa Flowers and Weddings. They displayed a lovely floral arrangement on top of a beaded pillow. Fabulous.

If you need a little help getting into your dress, you may want to check out Ardyss. They have shapewear products that promise to drop you down a few dress sizes as well as nutritional products to help with your weight goals.

There was also the fabulous and talented Julianne Smith. Julianne Smith is one of the top garter designers in the bridal biz. I was so loving her Chicago Cubs garter (the sports fan in me took over). She is about to launch her couture garter line in a few weeks. So exciting. Check out her web site for more information on the launch date.

Another vendor that stopped me in my tracks was LauraLee Designs. Her handmade bags were to die for. The craftsmanship and the creativity that goes into each of her bags is phenomenal. Such a fab edition to your bridal ensemble. You can design your bag to match your wedding colors.

I also met three amazing photographers - the charming Alexander from Photography by Alexander, the also charming duo from Rodney Bailey Photography and the lovely and talented Jamie Suthard from Borrowed Blue. All photography companies display amazing photographs but I was especially in love with Borrowed Blue's engagement photo that was printed on metal and pieced together to make a larger photo (see image below).

Of course, I can not forget the way fab jewelry by Witchypoo. All of the bling that you can stand at affordable prices. What more do you want?

To top of the afternoon, Carine’s Bridal Atelier put on a phenomenal fashion show of the most amazing bridal gowns that I have seen in some time. To add a very special touch, there was beautiful eye candy sans shirts abound. It was a little hard to focus on the dresses :-)

Check out my fab pics and visit these vendors for more information.
