Interview with vintage inspired jewelry designer "FRESHY FIG"

Upon our first sighting of the vintage brooches turned modern day pendant necklaces, we were instantly smitten with "FRESHY FIG", a vintage inspired jewelry line on Etsy.

A few of our favorites...

freshyfig

1.] Tell us something about yourself and what you do?
My name is Amanda and I have my jewelry business in Portland, Oregon. My boyfriend and I work together in our cute little vintage apartment. - Bonjour Amanda! So excited to have found you and your jewelry line FRESHY FIG on Etsy!

2.] What are 3 things inspiring you right now?
Three things that are inspiring right now are the layering of clothes and jewelry simultaneously, mixing metals, the idea of extracting modern looks from vintage pieces, and lockets...oh wait, that was four. - It's hard for us to limit to just 3 things too! So excited to see where your inspirations take your jewelry line!

3.] What's the best part about what you do?
The best part of what I do is having the opportunity to constantly collect and re-work already beautiful vintage pieces and then resist the urge to keep them all for myself! - We totally have this problem with wanting to keep all of our vintage finds too!

4.] Do you have any new creations in the works? If so, what can we expect from you soon?
I always have new creations in the works! I try to get at least 10 new items up on the site per week. You can expect owls, leaves and new image lockets galore! - We're so excited for the owls, love owls!

5.] When was the last time you had a really good laugh?
Having a creative job keeps the goofy juices flowing daily...and working across the table from my cheesy boyfriend helps too. - YAY, we love cheesy spouses too! And cheesy friends!

Currently Loving: "Love" Ceramics by Ninainvorm

Be still my heart for I have fallen head over heels in love with these cuter than cute, charming than charm ceramic plates and dishes by Nina of Ninainvorm. I love the designs on them, it reminds me a little of vintage children's book illustrations from the 50s and 60s.

They're so cheery and fun, I really must have a few of these! These would make darling little Valentine's gifts, don't you think?

I Love Paris in the Springtime by Alicia Bock

Oh! Be still my heart for I have fallen in love with Paris through the beautiful captures of photographer Alicia Bock. Why do I adore these photos so much? That soft amber glow, diffused sunlight, the tiny windows, a little hazy, dreamy... ahhh I wish I were in Paris!

You can purchase photo prints on her website or via etsy. BTW, her Etsy has many, many more beautiful photos so I do hope you will take a look! I can't even decide which I want to purchase, there are so many!

Adoring the lovely designs by Nadia Izruna of Nadinoo

The clothes have a vintage inspired feel, some of them remind me of vintage Cacharel, a little Biba-esque, and a touch of David Hamilton.

Site Spotlight: Youth.net

Just a quick little post. I discovered this site while searching for "Rationing in the 1940s" and this is one of the sites pulled up by Google.

Youth.net is a website where people can post their stories from World War 2. Lots of great little stories of first hand accounts of what life really was like during the second world war.

Just a few snippets...

"I am afraid I have very little to offer. I did have a short-term
love affair with a German girl, but this was cut short, fortunately, by
my being sent home.
"

"Once I was given a soldier uniform kit. A helmet and a cardboard
front of a uniform covered in the same material and with the same
insignia, and I had a wooden dagger and a belt to go with it.
I recall saluting a soldier once and he saluted back, and I thought
that I had just become a man to be taken serious.
"

"So she waited until it was dark, then stole out into the garden; she
tiptoed quietly, squeezed through the neighbor's fence, and stole an onion
from their veggie patch. She snuck back inside, and with great, great
pleasure sliced it - and ate it with the cheese. And a cup of tea.

Shop Spotlight: Spruce Home

Upon seeing the bright and cheery reupholstered vintage chairs and sofas I was immediately smitten by the decor shop Spruce Your Home on etsy.

The fabrics they use for the pillows and furniture border on quirky with a Domino centric aesthetic. I currently covet the White Knight Victorian Sofa which would look fantastic in my make believe Parisian foyer. (Ahh, one can dream, no?)

Site Spotlight: Hemlock Vintage

At Hemlock Vintage you will find a variety of vintage dresses, separates, and vintage accessories from the 1920s to the 1970s.

The shop currently doesn't have much to choose from and doesn't seem to have been updated since the beginning of July as most of the items are 'Coming Soon' but the site is definitely worth bookmarking and visiting again!
