Fashion + Film: A Room With A View (1985)

Set in the Edwardian Era, this film adaptation of E. M. Forster's novel has been added to my top 20 favorite films ever. It's just sweet and lovely and the wardrobe features all things lace, ruffled, and romantic.

The movie has an all star cast featuring Helena Bonham Carter, Maggie Smith, Judi Dench, Daniel Day-Lewis, and Julian Sands.

Vintage Inspired Outfits from Vintage Inspired Movies

The Edge of Love is a movie set in the 1940s loosely based on events revolving around the Welsh poet, Dylan Thomas. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it. Even if it is just for the beautiful and simple clothes as worn by Keira Knightley and Sienna Miller.
Fashion Inspiration from the Movies

For outfits inspired by the movie "The Edge of Love" remember to keep your colors mostly neutral with desaturated pops of color in shades of maroon, salmon, perhaps even teal.

A cozy cardigan or sweater is an absolute must! Nothing like warm woolens to keep out the Autumn and Winter chills!

Wellies might not be an everyday necessity for most places of the world so for shoes just keep in mind a utilitarian look. Leather boots with chunky heels (especially vintage ones that are already soft and worn in) are perfect options.

I love that the clothes from the movie have a hint of prettiness, not pretty fussy, just sensible pretty. So when it comes to picking accessories keep in mind function with a little simple flair. For example, vintage leather gloves with a bit of contrast stitching or button details.

Vintage Movies + Musicals: Hello, Dolly!

If you know me in person, you will know that I absolutely love musicals. I have a Pandora station devoted to showtunes. And sometimes I have an insane urge to pas de bouree down the street.

One of my favorite musicals is "Hello, Dolly!" with Barbara Streisand. It's so jovial and fun and the songs are beyond catchy (you might recognize them from Wall-E). The dance numbers are also super fantastic as they should be since the movie is directed by none other than the amazingly talented Gene Kelly!

The costumes in this 1969 movie are WONDERFUL. The colors are very reminiscent of the late 60s, lots of tans, muted pastels, cream with brown and black. I forgot to screencap the outfits before I returned it to Netflix, but perhaps you can find some around the internet.

10 Iconic Vintage Movie Dresses

In no particular order, and yes, we're slightly biased as we not only love the dresses featured in our "Top 10 Iconic Classic Movie Dresses", we're also fans of the movies they're in!

Well, the last one isn't quite a dress... however, who can't help but love Sandy's sexy all black ensemble?

Honorable Mentions:
Jessica Rabbit in "Who Framed Roger Rabbit"
Disney's Snow White
Glinda the Good Witch of the North

Vintage Clothing & Fashion in the Movies: "The Women" by George Cukor 1939

Fabulous vintage clothes, don't you think? Some of the costumes are so outlandish in the best sort of way! The "eyes" sweater for example... it's so interesting, I could easily see this being snapped up in a heart beat at a vintage shop.

Not one of my favorite Zooey movies, it was much too slow paced for me and felt a little empty in the end, but I did adore her clothes and the sets of course. { click on the images to view full size }
