The Amazing Florence + the Machine (and her equally amazing wardrobe)

Florence and the Machine

I am so inspired by Florence Welch's music and her amazing sense of style. It's vintage, it's fantasy, it's eccentric, it's Pre-Raphaelite meets bohemian goddess... in short, simply amazing and wonderful!

Vintage Tunes: French Yé-yé "Baby Pop" by France Gall

Baby Pop

She was a French pop singer in the 1960s whose musician parents were friends with Serge Gainsbourgh. She released her first record when she was 16 and became part of a musical movement dubbed "Yé-yé" (Yeah Yeah) popular in France, Quebec, and Spain in the early 1960s.

Vintage Movies + Musicals: Hello, Dolly!

If you know me in person, you will know that I absolutely love musicals. I have a Pandora station devoted to showtunes. And sometimes I have an insane urge to pas de bouree down the street.

One of my favorite musicals is "Hello, Dolly!" with Barbara Streisand. It's so jovial and fun and the songs are beyond catchy (you might recognize them from Wall-E). The dance numbers are also super fantastic as they should be since the movie is directed by none other than the amazingly talented Gene Kelly!

The costumes in this 1969 movie are WONDERFUL. The colors are very reminiscent of the late 60s, lots of tans, muted pastels, cream with brown and black. I forgot to screencap the outfits before I returned it to Netflix, but perhaps you can find some around the internet.

Vintage Tunes | Rosemary Clooney "Mambo Italiano"

We dare you to watch this without singing along or smiling. Wasn't Rosemary Clooney such a doll? We love her twirly dress too.

HEY MAMBO!

Stole My Heart by Little & Ashley, also the Kindle Commercial Song

I love this song so very much and also quite like the stop motion commercial, wish I could be in this commercial! Wouldn't it be great if they did a type of stop motion commercial with an Audrey Hepburn theme? *hehe*

quite like music

And I quite like other stuff too.

lol shirts

A friend mentioned that he'd seen a chick wearing this tee at the bus stop. He was so enamored by said girl that I hunted it down especially for him. Turns out that it's merch for We Are Scientists, but it'd probably be an even greater find if it wasn't.

eskimo joe

Eskimo Joe was a friendly little Esquimaux, content to wile away the hours wearing his dad's sweaters and releasing friendly JJJ indie pop rock for the long-haired masses. Until one dark day in 2003, when sweet little Joe found that chicks didn't dig the smiley, locked himself in the cupboard for a year and came back all mopey and emo and long, dark haired. ARIA accreditation and double platinum albums followed, until one day he went all Kurt Cobain on the world's ass and found himself immortalised on a baby blue shirt.

ninja tuna - greatest hero of them all

Stuff I did write about this tee: Umm this tee is ace.

Stuff I didn't write about this tee:
'When asked to reinterprate the Ninja Tune logo, Mr Scuff drew upon his seaside surroundings to imagine what exactly a deadly record wielding Ninja would be like if say it was to be part of the marine life family... the answer... a fat glutenous tuna. Totally makes sense to us. As Scruff says "if it's in the brine, it's mine".'

Gets it from: The Ninja Tune Shop
